Could I be a fashion designer without knowing how to sew? HELP?

Alright, I would love to be a fashion designer, but I SUCK at sewing. The thing is that I do a lot of sketching and I think I have some amazing ideas, and the pictures look gorgeous and I could literally just make a first-class fashion show if the stuff I sraw could be sewn exactly as I imagine it. But I can’t sew at all, no matter how I try. is there hope for me in the industry, or do I have to be able to sew???
Does Prada or Versace know how to sew?

Fashion design is highly competitive and the ability to sew is the advantage many who make it big have over others. Anyone can draw a pretty picture of a dress, anybody can come up with design concepts; the real talent comes in the ability to turn the sketches, the drawing and the concepts into reality. Tha’s the real art and craft of fashion design. It’s what separates the wannabes from those who make it. Remember in sewing, like everything else, practice makes perfect. Practice sewing techniques on scrap fabric without making anything until you get very good.

For designers who sew, Michael Kors, Anna Sui, Tommy Hilfger(who talked about that on his reality show), Saint Laurent, Courreges, Mary Quant, the guys of Heatherette, Gianni Versace was a master tailor who could hand sew a man’s suit; Alexander McQueen is an expert tailor, Karl Lagerfeld is also an expert dressmaker, several seasons ago he honored all the people who help him make the Chanel line; Coco Chanel herself sewed all her own clothes. Even Gwen Stefani sews, that why she wanted to do a line, because she designed and made many of her stage looks. Almost all designers must sew their own samples especially when they start out. And you will need to sew your designs on fashion school. And quite frankly, it’s expensive to hire pattern makers and sample makers, that money is better used elsewhere in the business when you are just starting out. Because so much of fashion is the fabric and making the fabric conform to the body and knowing what fabrics are used to achieve which effects, sewing and garment making will always be an integral part of fashion design. Considering at its core fashion design is about clothing and making new clothes, it only makes sense that a designer should sew. The only ones who don’t are celebrities who license their name to lines made by other fashion designers, all who quite likely know how to sew. But I don’t consider celebrities who lend their name to label to be real designers.
