My girlfriend told me when she lost her virginity… am I too old fashioned?

I’ve been with my girlfriend for about 6 months. We are both very in love and plan on getting married and having children.
She is always honest with me, and speaks openly about her past. She told me she lost her virginity when she was about 13 with her long term boyfriend of 3 years, and also tried anal sex with him when she was about 14. She’s never slept around, she’s had 3 long term boyfriends, including me.
The thing is, that really cut me when she told me that. I just don’t agree with having sex, especially anal, that young. It sort of changed the way I thought about her. I still love her a lot, but I just can’t get it out of my mind at the moment. I know girls are having sex at a younger age these days, but I guess I just didn’t want my precious girlfriend to be a statistic.
Do you think I’m too old fashioned? Should I tell her how I feel or just leave it in the past and try to forget about it?

If she told you that she slept with every man she met since she was 14 – then I might worry.

First off, alot of very nice people started having sex when they were very young. It does not mean that you are bad – or permanently scarred.

You sound like you might come from a strict religous upbringing – and think that sex is shameful and bad. Even if you believe that – you should also believe in forgiveness and understanding.

Everyone makes a mistake at some point. Don’t make her pay for it again and again by cutting her down about her past. Forgive and forget.

Be nice, have a nice relationship. Don’t ruin it by unnecessarily reliving a past that had nothing to do with you.
