How to live with a vegetarian/ fitness buff/ animal rights activist/ liberal/ human rights advocate???

I love my fiancee to death and I appreciate that he is so passionate about all of his causes but he gets too intense for me. I am so laid back about everything,and if I say that I dont know (or particularly care, sorry) whats going on in lebanon these days he goes absolutely nuts. If I hit my dog for crapping on the floor, he goes berserk, if I buy the wrong kind of wheat bread he goes bonkers, if all I had to eat all day was a candy bar, I’ll never hear the end of it, and if I am not in the mood for his tyrranical rant about the child soldiers in Uganda, he says that I dont try to care about what he ares about. I am not an activist! I dont read the newspaper or watch CNN!!! I like comedy and fashion shows and shows about plastic surgery!!! How can we conect?? How can I live with him if he never turns his activist switch off??? He’s driving me crazy!!!

It’s not his preferences and passions that are the problem (tho I disagree with 99% of them most likely) but he has some self management issues. He sounds like a controlling guy with an anger problem. How old is he? If he’s over 40, he’s most likely not going to change. (Only the veg. diet will help him avoid a heart attack.) If he’s under 30 and doesn’t see his behavior as a little over the top, RUN. If you can convince him that he needs some help in flipping off the switch, then you have some hope.

What DO you like about this guy?

I get my back up about injustices (as I see them) and my wife hates that side of me as she’s more like you: not up on a lot of current issues, and really doesn’t care. But I try to leave that stuff for in the car when I’m alone or when I’m talking with like-minded people, and I respect her preference that I not bring my rants into the home. Well, not often anyway.
