Making artwork look worn/distressted in Illustrator CS?

I’m fairly new to Illustrator CS. (I’ve been using it for a year.) I know how to do a lot of basic things but I need help making my artwork look worn and distressed. I’ve created art to be printed on a shirt and the customer wants it to look distressed. Its really popular in fashion right now and I have no idea how to do it. Are there tutorials or some simple steps? I’ve searched the Adobe Design Center website and haven’t found anything. Also, is there a way to do it in Photoshop too?
