Fashion Look Book Examples

Picture book about a boy who lives on a house on an island in the middle of a city? Looking for his uncle?

I can’t remember if the person he was looking for was his uncle or granfather or what. Let’s just say zany adult male guardian. I think they boy was about ten. The book is kind of the style of Anthony Browne and Graeme Base. Anyway he lives on a house on an island in the middle of a city and one day the uncle/grandfather goes missing and the boy has to try and find him. He searches through the rooms of the house and it’s kind of “what’s wrong with this picture” style and artistic because there are all these weird things in the rooms, for example a baseball bat instead of a table leg. I think it might have been kind of art-themed, or had something to do with art… I think there was also an underwater page, where they boy had an old-fashioned diving suit on, and was looking through a porthole. It was kind of bizarre and nonsensical. But cool.

The boy is 10 & the adult is his grandfather.

Before he died the boy’s grandfather gives him the large wooden chest by his bed, telling him ‘Everything you could ever want is in that chest if you know where to look for it.’ He also talks about the boy getting to Atlantis, explaining that you have to learn to look for the mythical land but that it ‘is right here, all around you.’
After the grandfather dies writer and artist Colin Thompson shows us the lifetime of treasures contained within that chest. ‘Looking for Atlantis’ is primarily a picture book. By this I mean two things. First, that the chief attraction here are the pictures, in which Thompson often fills every square inch with literally dozens of details. . . .
Thompson . . . wanted to do a book that was a cross-section of a house. . . . a reason for a young boy to go through all the rooms . . . . “
