1920s Fashion help?!?!?
We are having a Great Gatsby party in my English class. I am in the fashion group, and I have to coordiate outfits that represent what people wore in the 1920s. Anyone have any sites that could help? What should I tell the caterers to wear??
Women wore
above-the-knee pinafores
In 1923, the waistline began to drop and by the following year in had reached the hip
In the late 20s the bustless, waistless silhouette was popular
cloche hats (without rims)
Flapper dresses were straight and loose, leaving the arms bare and dropping the waistline to the hips.
Popular flapper make-up styles made the skin pale, the lips red, and the eyes black-ringed.
For men:
By 1925, this fashion had been displaced by wide straight-leg cuffed trousers (the standard width became 23 inches although young men often wore even wider trousers commonly known as “Oxford Bags”) while suit jackets returned to a normal waist and lapels became wider and were often worn peaked. Loose fitting sleeves (without a taper) also began to be worn during this period. During the late 1920s, double breasted vests, often worn with a single breasted jacket, also became quite fashionable. During the 1920s, men had a variety of sport clothes available to them, including sweaters and short trousers, commonly known as knickers. For formal occasions in the daytime, a morning suit was usually worn. For evening wear men preferred the short tuxedo to the tail-coat, which was now seen as rather old-fashioned and snobbish.
