Help, advice on photo for portfolio!?

My friend took this photo for her fashion photography portfolio, it is not edited yet, but do you think it is a bad photo? she is suppose to be one of the seven deadly sins – lust

This is not a great photo for a portfolio. The lighting is too harsh. There is no fill light for the hair. And the pose makes a pretty girl look like she has lines around her mouth, a chubby chin line, and a snub nose–none of which she probably has. Oh, and she is so close to the red curtain that it looks like she has a third degree burn on one side of her face. I would throw this one out and try for a better shot with much better lighting.

Your friend needs to learn what angles make her face look the best. If she takes a lot of simple shots from different angles then she will see what her best angles are for photos. You want the professional photographer to have so many good shots that the client has a difficult time choosing the best ones instead of looking through a ton of photos to find even one that works. Practice, practice and good luck!! : /
